Abstract
The purpose of this study was to verify the mediating effects of emotional regulation abilities on the relationship between maternal rearing attitudes and children¡¯s problematic behaviors. The participants comprised 618 children in the 5th and 6th grade in elementary schools. The data thus collected were analyzed by means of frequency analysis, Pearson¡¯s correlation, and regression analysis using SPSS and AMOS 18.0 statistics programs. In addition, structural equation analysis was used to verify the mediating effects. The results of this study were as follows: First, perceived maternal rearing attitudes significantly affect children``s problematic behaviors. Second, perceived maternal rearing attitudes have a significantly effect on children``s emotional regulation abilities. Third, it was found that children who have higher emotional regulation abilities reveal fewer problematic behaviors. Fourth, emotional regulation ability partially mediates the relationship between maternal rearing attitudes and children¡¯s problematic behaviors. Accordingly, maternal rearing attitudes not only have a direct effect on problematic behaviors but also have an effect on problematic behaviors through emotional regulation abilities.
